This is the third album as a leader by Canadian Fusion bassist / composer Antoine Fafard, recorded in a trio setting with guitarist Jerry De Villiers, Jr. and legendary drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. Three guest musicians: keyboardist Gerry Etkins, drummer Gary Husband and saxophonist Jean-Pierre Zanella appear on selected tracks.This is my favorite of the Fafard solo releases.Riff and Raft is built on a uptempo slap line, and features blazing solos from guitarist Jerry DeVilliers Jr., and keyboardist Gerry Etkins, who guests on 3 cuts. They're both back on PolySeven, as advertised, a song that has polyrhythms and is mostly in 7/8 time. Drum god Vinnie Colauita crushes it throughout.Overall this is a superb Fusion album, which should make every fan of the genre happy, but also be accessible to more Jazz oriented listeners beyond the strict Fusion circles. Well done indeed!
